Day 20 Placard and Tightness |
Day 20, PS:
Got my handicap parking placard today at the DMV! I now have the power in my hand! Its actually really nice to be able to park right in front of the store you want to go to and not trek the extra few feet. Of course, those extra few feet make a huge difference when you are in crutches.

I remember the orthopedic nurse telling me that I will be placed in a boot at the end of this month. Thursday, January 29th to be precise. I'm quite excited over the prospect of getting out of the cast and hopefully starting partially weight bearing. At least I have a date to focus on to keep my eye on the long term prize.
My calf muscle spasms at random times, and I can feel a pull around my Achilles' Tendon. Glad to feel that the surgery worked! I also from time to time try to wiggle my toes, as I heard that motivates blood flow to the leg. Actually, I feel like I overdid it, as I can feel a tightness in the area, and have a hunch of where the tear occurred. No more voluntary wiggling for me!
I was pleased to receive a phone call from my friends inviting me to eat dinner with them. I haven't seen them for over a month now, so it was great to see their faces again. My coach was there too, and we talked a bit. I told him that I wanted to take lessons in a chair, and he was willing to do so. However, I'll wait until I get the boot before I start heading back to the club because I feel like I will involuntarily push off of it even in the lesson.
We had a ton of stories to tell over dinner about our Christmas holidays and New Years Celebrations. It seem like forever since we've seen each other.
Tomorrow I will be refereeing at a fencing tournament, still in a cast and crutches. I have an idea in mind as to getting around, and will let everyone know how it goes.
