Week 11 - Weight Bearing |
I'm switching to Weeks rather than Days now for my ATR entries.
I finally got to see my doctor, and he gave me the green light to put weight on my left leg. It will start slowly, from 30-50 lbs, to 75-100 lbs, to full weight in 2 weeks. Yay!

I was becoming depressed, but I usually do so when the future seems bleak and without any direction.
However, this week I felt a little optimistic and soon enough, I got the call to schedule an appointment to see my doctor. I nabbed the earliest available timeslot.
The protocol my doctor gave me for weight bearing goes something like this:
Gradually start putting weight on left foot, with crutches and boot.
30-50 lbs for a the first few days, then 75-100 lbs, then full weight, in two day increments or at discretion. These are all to be done in short distances.
Once I am able to put full weight on it, try walking short distances without crutches, with the boot. After I'm able to do that, then I should ease into a shoe.
A shoe. Fancy that, eh?
I don't have to sleep with the boot anymore (Thank goodness!), and I need to stretch my Achilles' out a little more because I wasn't as aggressive with the foot exercises he prescribed me. I can start driving once I can put full weight on my left foot, and I can do stationary bike exercises, with no resistance and the pedal on my arch rather than on my toe.
So, expect me to be updating on my status as I attempt to wean myself off of my boot and into my shoe!
