Week 16 - Standing Bird
Its been a while, but I am finally walking with two shoes, and without much of a limp. Time has flown by so fast, and it seems like its been ages since I tore my Achilles' Tendon. Its amazing that just 5 weeks ago, I couldn't even walk.
I wrote about my recovery on my Fencing.net blog, I guess because I felt like I needed to let people know about my condition in the fencing world. Its nothing really new from what I've relayed here.

Fencing.net entry

I've been unexpectedly surprising people by entering into a building on my feet. For instance, one day I walked into the fencing center to talk to a certain coach. I spot the coach and start walking towards him when I hear squeals and applause. Astonished, I turn around to find a group of parents gawking at the fact that I was walking. They've grown accustomed to seeing me in crutches and a boot.

The whole experience has flown by so quick, now that I am walking. Let me recall the whole process while I'm typing here.

When I last wrote here, I was still in the boot, hobbling around and placing weight. I actually took a week more than prescribe out of fear that I would tear it trying to speed up my recovery. And then, I started walking without the boot. Those first steps were terrifying and painful, and I did them in short bursts. I clung onto the boot like a security blanket.

But it got to the point that I decided to push myself and overcome my apprehension of walking. I lengthened the distances I walked, and then when I felt comfortable, I focused on fixing my gait. People kept commenting how well I was coming along everyday, which was encouraging.

And now here I am.

It seems like life has returned to normal now. But I don't really remember what normal is, because every day I wake up and feel the tightness of my tendon. Its a reminder of how far I have come, and I don't regret any bit of it.
