Week 16 - Fencing Bird
Yeah, I should include this in my previous entry, but I wanted to discuss this as a separate thing, and I don't feel like my situation warrants significance to update elsewhere. *sarcasm*
I don't really care if my entries have significance, but they are for me to track my progress. And I feel like since fencing caused my injury, it has significance in my injury rehab and my journey.

After I was placed in the boot, I started taking lessons sitting down on a bench with my coach. They were quite difficult at first, but slowly but surely I started getting a hang of the cues, the actions, and my coaches' happy disposition.

My coach is extremely technical, and at times my arm would ache because of the number of repetitions I had to do along with using crutches. If that happened, I would take a break from the lessons.

As I started weaning from the crutches and into the boot, the arm aches went away. My coach decided to teach me this crazy routine that goes through a series of cuts and cues. Apparently this routine was used in a commercial that was aired in South America. It has enough bells and whistles to receive a nod from Hollywood. It is also tricky and taxing as hell. If you are stiff anywhere in your shoulder, you will feel it immediately. It took me a while to get a hang of it, and I still get it wrong from time to time. And if that was not enough, he also pauses in between the routine to see if I'm actually aware or just rehearsing the action.

When I was able to stand on both of my feet comfortably, my lessons shifted slowly to standing on my feet and rehearsing several drills. And thats where I am currently. We tried small advances, but I freak out after doing the third repetition. So until I get clearance, no advances or retreats for now.

This injury has taught me the significance of balance, and I now understand how off balance I was before. I hope to strengthen that as well. It has also taught me patience and acceptance. As I said in my previous entry, I am glad to have gone through this, because of what I learned here.
